Personally, I have no interest in (will not purchase) any camera that does not offer local storage with FTP transfer. Uploading video of my home to someone’s server “out there” is a non-starter. While the Netatmo Presence isn’t the cheapest nor easiest to install, it’s the only “good” IP camera I found with that one very necessary feature.
Hello Anna, it looks like the same physical characteristics as the foscams I am very familiar with. I don’t really consider 720P, HD, but apparently the industry does-lol. So many at 1080 standard these days, but as long as it meets your needs, that s all that counts. the Sd card backup is good, POE capable good too, just in case your positioning doesn’t agree with WiFi, its good to have that option to run a Cad5 line directly to it. depending on what you decide to use this for, I would definitely mount it somewhere high and in a well thought out spot to cover as much of your chosen area. the pan and tilt is fun, but unless youre monitoring it 24-7, its only useful if youre at the controls, but its still a fun and cool option. This will come down to the Sw client that they give you for the cameras many features and operations, again, you will be the judge of that cuz only you know your OS’s on computer(s)/phones/devices and the compatibility is key. Ask any specific questions and I will do my best to give you the facts.
This bullet-style outdoor security camera boasts a 1 megapixel lens and 720p HD resolution for crystal clear monitoring. It features 8GB of built-in storage for easy recording and offers remote viewing via your mobile device so you can keep an eye on things at home no matter where life takes you. Easy plug-and-play installation means you can get up and monitoring in less time.
The Ezviz Husky delivered 1080p images with accurate colors by day and up to 100 feet of night vision. But the size and design of the camera made installation a little tricky and led to some stripping on the included Phillips-head screws. Once installed, you can make vertical adjustments, but the camera is in a fixed horizontal position. Ezviz offers two cloud storage plans, starting at $6 per month, and onboard storage via the included 16 GB microSD card (or you can spring for one up to 128 GB). It also has IFTTT support, so you can integrate the camera with Alexa, WeMo, Nest, and much more. What it does not have is any sort of audio. Also, the touchy motion detector delivered over 100 event notifications in the first 18 hours of use alone. Even when we adjusted the sensitivity, it delivered a barrage of alerts to the point where we needed to periodically shut it off.
We have tested IPS models in the past from Vizio, and tested an IPS model from LG this year in the guide. The fact is that even with good backlighting systems, they just don’t hold up when placed side-by-side to VA panels in our testing. For people that watch really off-axis we can see where someone would want one, but for most people we think a VA panel is better because the contrast ratios are 4-5x as high typically.
We started compiling a list of outdoor Wi-Fi cameras by doing Google searches and reading professional reviews on sites like PCMag, Safewise, and Safety.com. We also checked out the options available on popular online retailers and read the user reviews there.
What about Piper NV? It has a z-wave controller to remotely control lights and appliances and they recently added IFTTT functionality (auto-arm and disarm for example). Piper NV can also be the hub of a home security system with door/window sensors, motion sensors, and water leak sensors. It also has a 180 degree full HD camera and free cloud storage of video clips, which are only recorded when the device is armed and a specified event occurs (like motion detected). A powerful siren. 2-way audio. Live stream video. Auto re-arm. It is highly customizable too. You choose how it notifies you when a sensor is triggered. Piper will actually phone you when an alarm is triggered if you check that box. They also keep improving it and adding more functionality and ensuring compatibility with more z-wave devices. Users ask for more functionality in reviews and Piper keeps improving the app/software to provide it. And they have had a couple of years now to iron out bugs in the software too. It is stable. And you think Belkin HD+ is superior? Hardly.
Link up individual analog cameras from LaView, Ezviz, and Night Owl Security Products or get a pre-built surveillance system kit. Choose between four or eight camera kits that are built to endure outdoor weather conditions and record full 1080p in both day and night. Featuring a built-in, large-volume DVR, they often also come with free cloud access so you can back up and access the footage from anywhere.
Nest also announced two new features: Person Alerts, which can distinguish between people and non-human subjects, and Familiar Faces (for the Nest Cam IQ and outdoor cameras), which can merge faces of the same person from your photo collection.
Like our top pick, the Nest Cam Outdoor doesn’t have an integrated mount. Instead, the separate mount is magnetic, so you can attach and position the camera easily. Although it has a lot of flexibility in movement, it needs to be placed within reach of an outlet, which can be a problem outside the house. That said, the power cord is quite lengthy. The camera has a 10-foot USB cable attached, but you can get another 15 feet from the included adapter/power cable.
The Nest Cam Outdoor uses a separate mount, rather than an integrated one, so you’re not limited to viewing one area. The mount is magnetic but strong, so you can attach the camera easily and move it up, down, and everywhere in between.
The Netatmo Presence is an outdoor security camera that’s built into a porch light—a convenient combination, but one that limits placement options. It’s also the most expensive camera on our list. However, the Presence’s price tag includes and HomeKit support and the ability to differentiate between people, animals, and cars. Because it’s a hardwired camera/light, you need to keep the light switch on at all times or the camera won’t work—you can turn off the light itself in the app. It also offers a lot of free storage possibilities via the included 16 GB microSD card, a free Dropbox account, or any personal FTP server. The video image is a clear 1080p during the day, with a 100-degree field of view. As expected, the night vision is grainier, but we could still make out details on the back deck and bunnies in the yard.

You say you compiled a list of other cameras and their features, would it be possible to get a copy of this spreadsheet? Personally, I’m looking into a camera by hikvision and am curious if that ever made it on your list, and if so.. why it was disqualified. A high quality PoE (not battery or wireless) camera that can record 24/7 locally and to the cloud is important to me.
Many people turn to local installation companies for assistance with installing a security system; however, consumers can save money by buying and self-installing security systems. An excellent choice…
For daylight video tests, we wrote on a poster and placed it 16 feet away to compare each camera’s indoor video quality. We used two lighting settings: natural light with the lights on and natural light on its own. We found the video was often better with the lights on than with natural light alone. The Flir FX and Foscam C2 had the best results with lights on. In low-light conditions, the Nest Cam Indoor and the D-Link DCS-2630L were better.
The battery-powered $199 (£150/AU$260, converted) Ring Spotlight Cam has built-in LEDs, motion detection, 1080p HD live streaming and two-way talk. An optional solar-powered model is available for $229 (£170/AU$300, converted).
The Defender-Digital-Wireless-Security-Recording comes with a 7 inch LCD monitor, SD card recording, and a long range night vision camera and a DVR. The unit is available with one or two cameras, with or without the monitor. The digital technology provides for clear images to be recorded and the wireless capabilities allow the homeowner to view the images from anywhere they have Wi-Fi access. The lack of wires makes the installation and set up fast and easy. The SD card includes a 2GB card that can record up to 350 minutes of footage. The Defender-Digital-Wireless-Security-Recording records both audio and video. The long range night vision provides 18 infrared LED’s to provide clear pictures up to 40 feet away. There is a 2 way intercom that allows you to monitor the camera with a built in microphone. The LCD monitor allows you to watch previously recorded video with ease. You can display from 1 to 5 images as a time.
Nest has rolled out a new Nest Aware subscription plan. Consumers can now opt for a $5/month plan, which gives you access to five days of recordings for a single camera (the company already offers 10-day/$10 and 30-day/$30 plans), and $3/month for each additional camera. By comparison, Netgear Arlo’s least-expensive plan gives you thirty days, or 10GB, of cloud storage for up to 10 cameras for $9.99 per month or $99 per year. Although it doesn’t make any indoor-specific cameras, Ring’s Protect Basic plan costs $30 per year (or $3 per month), and gives you 60 days of video for a single camera.
Completely wire-free, the Ezviz Mini Trooper uses standard CR123A batteries to deliver 720p video and support for Amazon Alexa and IFTTT. To eliminate downtime, it can store four of those batteries, but uses only two to function. Like the Arlo Pro, this model has a base station that needs an outlet, but that can be paired with a network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi. That piece includes a microSD card slot for up to 128 GB of stored recordings, which is a nice bonus for people who don’t want to deal with the optional cloud service. Unlike the Ezviz Husky, this model doesn’t allow you to tweak sensitivity—it delivered well over 100 false alerts a day and drained the battery to 51 percent in just four weeks, despite an advertised 9 months of use.
I have a motion sensitive hand held (Kodak’s version of GoPro) and digital cameras that will capture images and buffer them . When the “trigger” to record is pulled, the units also save/records the buffer. This would eradicate any perception of “delay-to-record.
Some outdoor security cameras come with onboard storage, or the option to add a memory card to record images. They can be set to record only when movement is detected in order to cut down on file size and battery usage. Recordings can be invaluable when it comes to catching and prosecuting a potential intruder.
If your outdoor needs are limited to your front porch, or you simply want to be able to view who’s at the door, a video doorbell, like the Editors’ Choice Ring Pro, might be worth considering instead. For more, see our picks for the Best Video Doorbells.
First of all, this may be logitechs “first foray into wireless security cams”, but its not their first “foray” into security cameras!, I wanted to share what I feel is extremely pertinent information for anyone considering this product, as well as anyone who still has a chance to question what support, if any, you may or may not receive if and when you have issues with a logitech security camera: For those contemplating a logitech security camera of any kind, allow me to enlighten everyone on their history in this market. Personally, when I consider a high end purchase of any product I do not have adequate and thorough knowledge and or experience with, I ALWAYS turn to the company’s history of support for said product. So with that said, I have Extensive knowledge and experience with logitechs previous “foray” into security cams systems ie (logitech alert 750e & 700n or 700i systems) which were high priced in the market, and seemed to work great, until EVERY SINGLE CAMERA they sold for inflated prices to consumers, FAILED. They ALL failed, A 4 cam system boasting 720P playback and recording would run you well over $1000, and suck up ALL your HD space if you allocated the default amount. Then when they FAILED, and they all did, logitech LITERALLY pulled out of the security cam market and left ALL THEIR CUSTOMERS SCREWED OVER for any and all warranty service / support. Its Amazing, yet Pathetic how short of an attention span world wide consumers have, especially Americans. So a FOOL and their money are soon parted apparently rings true once again. How many of these “fools” are going to trust such a company who SCAMMED SO MANY of their customers out of their money and left them ALL scratching their heads over a FAILED security camera system that all sites like these raved about? How soon people forget. logitech currently has a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT against them for what they did and how they disrespectfully mistreated all their customers regarding these defective cameras/equipment, and instead of owning up to, and taking responsibility for getting caught manufacturing and selling faulty and defective products, and instead of doing the RIGHT thing and reimbursing all their customers with some sort of restitution-“al” effort, theyd rather spend millions of $$ denying any responsibility for STEALING their customers money and Abandoning them, and in some rare cases if the customer REALLY fought for their rights, they offered some worthless scam “warranty”, where as they just sent out all the returned failed cameras to different customers after they cleaned them up and replaced the defective ones with these alternate defective ones. To all the SCAMMED people, what do you think they learned from this? Well Apparently, That the consumer population has no clue and will just keep wasting their money on their defective products manufactured with poor quality standards, and they will hide behind a weak warranty, and the “electronics industry standards” SCAM” created and put into law by these same lobbying company’s so they can lawfully rip everyone off with ZERO Accountability and Responsibility. Ill say it again, “A Fool and their Money are soon Parted”. Best of luck to all who fall back into their money pit, and if I have helped at least one fellow consumer with this factual information and experience/findings, then I am glad to stick my neck out to share one of Many real world experiences with this company’s attitude and history in this specific market.
Follow up: they agreed to replace it, but I have to pay to ship it to them. At this point, I would recommend to all potential customers of Netatmo to avoid their products. Even if the products are sound, the lack of acceptable customer support – the delays, the costs put on the customer, etc. – degrade the purchase too much.
Besides the occasional stolen package, I’ve been having an issue with a neighbor who has stolen my door mat twice; leaves notes on my Jeep; trash on my door step and in the narrow slot of my mail box. I’d like to have some leverage to make it stop.
The sleek-looking Canary has environmental sensors that monitor heat, humidity and air quality. It also includes an intercom, a very loud siren that should scare off any intruder, and a geofencing feature that automatically turns on motion detection when the user leaves the house. The Canary can also interact with Wink smart-home devices. The 1080p video looks crisp and clear, the sound quality is excellent, and the mobile app is intuitive.
